Safety guide
Most vehicle sales go smoothly. These steps help you avoid the ones that do not.
For buyers
- Inspect the vehicle in person, in daylight, and take a test drive.
- Never pay a deposit or "holding fee" before you have seen the vehicle and its documents.
- Consider an independent pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic you choose.
- Be wary of prices far below the market and of sellers who will only communicate by message.
For sellers
- Do not hand over the vehicle or documents until payment has fully cleared.
- Ignore buyers who offer to pay more than the asking price or ask for a refund of an overpayment.
- Accompany buyers on test drives and check their driving licence first.
- Never share one-time passwords (OTPs) or bank login details with anyone.
Documents and transfer
- Check that the chassis and engine numbers on the vehicle match the registration certificate (CR).
- Confirm whether the vehicle is under lease or finance, and settle it with the lender first.
- Complete the ownership transfer through the Department of Motor Traffic process.
- Keep copies of the sale agreement, receipts and transfer papers.
